My Quarantine Routine: Jessica, a 26-year-old Instagram influencer in New York

04/01/2020

With everyone staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic, it’s hard not to spend even more time on social media.

Before the outbreak, your feed was probably filled with influencers with beautifully styled shots of trips abroad or their amazing brunch, but now, everyone has to stay at home.

Today on My Quarantine Routine, we’re talking to Jessica Markowski, a model, actress and content creator on Instagram with over 180,000 followers, about how she is keeping up her account when she can’t leave her house.

The 26-year-old is self-isolating with her family in New York City, where over 1,000 people have died from the virus.

This is how she spent Thursday 26 March.

7 am

I woke up and lay in bed on my phone. I try and catch up on the news to see if anything has changed overnight as every single day in NYC, it is something new. This has become a form of habit every single morning.

NYC is the epicentre of the U.S. and so I am always very cautious as to what I do and how it will leave an impact.

8 am

I grab a quick bite to eat downstairs with my family. Usually, that tends to be a little bit of oatmeal. Foods in NYC are running low every time you go to the supermarket so we try and preserve as much as possible.

9 am

I go back into my room and catch up on all my emails. Even though there is not as much happening, I like to be on top of everything as much as I can.

I am self-employed and a lot of the work I do requires for me to be outdoors, at meetings, at shooting and filming locations. This stay-out-home lifestyle impacts my ability to work tremendously.

10 am

I get a lot of energy from working out. Typically I go to workout classes at a gym. Now, I have to work with what I have and that is YouTube and my yoga mat.

11 am

I go back to hanging out on my laptop and emailing.

12 pm

My sister and I are usually responsible for grabbing groceries as we are the youngest in the house. We grab all the necessities we need to last for the week.

1 pm

I take a lunch break and eat with my whole family. We watch a little bit of Polish news as my parents are from Poland and watch Polish TV channels.

2 pm

After lunch, I feel less motivated to work and email. I take a break to watch a show. I have never watched Power so I am catching up. On season 3!

3 pm

I try and catch up with all my friends and family to see how they are doing. Some of which have gotten the virus and some that work in hospitals.

4 pm

I spend time on social media. I am either posting or seeing what my friends and followers are up to.

Content is very limited now as I can’t really arrange shoots outside so I play around with previous images from before the virus spread.

5 pm

As I am a content creator, I spend another hour devoted to social media.

6 pm

I try and wrap up all my emails and work related things. I try and go for a quick power walk with my mom around our neighborhood.

7 pm

I watch a bit of the news, see what updates there are in NYC from our president and from our governor.

8 pm

I go downstairs to eat a salad for dinner.

9 pm

I spend an hour with my family talking about updates that they have heard about from family and friends. My mom makes us all tea before bed.

10 pm

Officially bedtime!
