Mum-of-four bags £93 food shop for just £10 using mystery box hack

A savvy mum revealed how she got £93 worth of shopping by spending just £10.

Sarah Whitfield, from Warrington, uses a store called The Bridge Hub to bag bargains.

She accessed it via the Too Good To Go app, which is free for anyone in the UK to find offers for mystery boxes near them.

The 31-year-old emergency services worker nabs these random items and throws them together to make tasty meals for her kids – two-year-old twins, a three-year-old and a seven-year-old.

Sarah told LatestDeals.co.uk: “I got a mystery £10 box from a store called The Bridge Hub.

“I try to pick up these boxes twice a month as they really help to feed my family on a budget.”

Sarah continued: “You never know what you are going to get, and that’s what makes it exciting

“We usually find that at least most of the groceries are suitable for us to use over the course of the week.

“I pick up these boxes between 11 and 12 on either a Tuesday or a Thursday, and with my most recent one I was impressed to find that the items were originally worth £93.70 in total.

“This means I saved £83.70 by using the mystery box service, which will make a big difference!

“I got 36 items in total, so I worked out that means I got each item for an average of about 27p.”

Sarah added: “Considering that some of the items are things like venison bolognese, mince and cheese, this is incredible value for money!”

As well as getting pricier items for less cash, the mum was given some fridge and cupboard staples too.

She explained: “I got four bags of potatoes worth £3.60 in total, and a bag of cabbage which was originally £1.

“I also got two spring onion bunches worth £1.50, and a bag of tangerines which had been 89p.

“I essentially paid £2.16 for a haul which was worth just under £7, saving £5 in the process.”

Next up was bread and cakes.

Sarah said: ‘I picked up three boxes of Be Kind bars which were worth £9 originally.

“This was exciting as I basically saved around £8 by paying just under £1 for them.

“I also got a pack of Jack’s apple pies with a RRP of £1.10 and brownie mix which had been £1.99.

“A loaf of Hovis white bread was included, which used to be £1.09. Plus I got an Old El Paso Kit and two wraps, worth a total of £6.60.

”I worked out that this section of the shop cost me £2.43, and it was worth £19.78, so I saved £17.35!”

Finally, it was time for dairy products, protein and snacks.

Sarah revealed: “I got a pack of cheese strings worth £1, plus some £2 mozzarella sticks.

“The box included some Eat Lean cheese which was priced originally at £2.50, and I also got some cheddar cheese worth £1.50.

“A carton of Oatly milk was in there too and that was worth £1.80.

“I was impressed by some of the more expensive products I got in the haul. For example, I picked up 2kg of venison bolognese which was originally priced at £20, plus 1.25kg of Dr Wills BBQ sauce which I would have paid £16 for without the mystery box.

“As I paid 54p for these two items, which had an original price of £36, I saved £35.46!”

Sarah added: “I got some decent protein for the week, too.

“For example, I got mince originally worth £3.50, plus three packs of Blakeman’s sausages worth a total of £5.97.

“I also got a little tub of pate worth 45p.

“The drinks and snacks were decent as well.

“Some of the last few items included grapefruit juice worth £1.63, Kelloggs cereal worth £3 and Oppo ice cream also worth £3.”

Sarah was chuffed with the bargain haul, which provided her with meals for the week, and would recommend the Too Good To Go hack with others.

She said: “The enchilada kit meant I could whip up a quick meal which everyone loved, and my son loved mixing together the brownie mix to make a batch of treats!

“I also made several pasta dishes using the meat I got in the mystery box, and I made some snack plates for the kids using the fruit and vegetables.

“We are a family of 6 so it all goes quite quickly.

“Anything we don't use straight away gets frozen or anything we won't eat gets given to family and friends.”
