M&S now does CHEESE Easter eggs – The Sun

GOUDA it get any better? Marks & Spencer is now selling boxes of mini cheese eggs.

No we haven't gone crackers, from today the shop will be selling the eggs, made with Barber's Farmhouse Cheddar and a vintage 18-month matured Red Leicester "yolk".

The mini eggs come in a cardboard box, to make them look like real chicken's eggs.

Each one has a pretty duck egg blue "shell", made from blue wax and they're 250 calories each.

They are priced at £8.50 for a box of six which weighs 360g and will be available in 600 shops from today.

Of course, it's a lot more expensive than just buying the cheese from the supermarket but that's really not as fun.

M&S will also be selling a larger cheese egg, priced at £8 for 300g. It will be available from 18 March in 250 shops.

The supermarket said 55 per cent of Brits preferred savoury snacks to sweet and while 26 per cent never get tired of chocolate at Easter, 23 per cent would rather give it up than cheese.

It surveyed 2,063 adults on their cheese habits and also found that 15 per cent wanted more savoury options for Easter treats.

M&S product developer, Rosie Eiduks said: “Not only are our Mini Cheesy Eggs a picture perfect gift, they’re also completely delicious, with our quality Barber’s Farmhouse Cheddar and a vintage Red Leicester yolk.

"Beautiful served on an Easter lunch cheeseboard, sliced into a sandwich or salad, or loaded on top of crackers.”

While these cheesey eggs may look egg-cellent, it's not the first time we've seen them on the shelves.

Last year Sainsbury's sold an Easter egg made from spreadable cheese. The "cheaster" egg contained 120g of cheese, a packet of oat cakes, and a sachet of chutney for £5.

In 2018 Asda delighted dairy fans with its "cheester" egg. Half of the egg was made from delicious Blacksticks blue cheese and half was crackers and chutney.

There was also the brie-lient solid cheese egg, which was priced at £14.95 for 260g.

We've even seen a chocolate and cheese hybrid before, which Iceland sold in 2017 for £3. It described it as the "ultimate sweet yet savoury Easter egg" treat, made up of Wensleydale cheese and raspberry and white chocolate curls.

The supermarkets have already started to release Easter-themed food products this year.

At B&M you can buy a Guinness Easter egg for £8.99 and it comes with six mini chocolate pints.

Tesco has brought back its salted caramel and chocolate chip hot cross buns, priced at £1 for eight.

While Lidl is selling bunny-shaped pasta for Easter.
