Morrisons is giving shoppers 5p a litre off fuel until Sunday

08/19/2019

MORRISONS shoppers can nab 5p a litre off fuel in time for the bank holiday weekend when they spend in store.

From now until Sunday August 25, Morrisons will give shoppers a money off fuel voucher when they spend at least £40 in one of its supermarkets.

The voucher can then be used to bag a discount on petrol or diesel at a Morrisons forecourt until Sunday September 1.

There are nearly 500 Morrisons stores in the UK and 334 of them have petrol stations. Find your nearest branch using Morrisons' online shop finder tool.

Motorists filling up at Morrisons paid on average 126.66p a litre last month, according to the AA, so this would bring prices down to 121.66p a litre.

But be aware that the offer isn't available on online shopping, and even when you're spending in store some items are excluded, such as gift vouchers, baby milk, and tobacco.

Ways to cut down on your fuel costs

HERE are some tips on how you can slash the cost of fuel

  1. Make your car more fuel-efficient. You can do this by keeping your tyres inflated, taking the roof rack off, emptying your car of clutter and turning off your air con when driving at lower speeds.
  2. Find the cheapest fuel prices. PetrolPrices.com and Confused.com allows you to search prices of UK petrol stations. All you need to do is enter in your postcode and tell it how far you want to travel (up to 20 miles).
  3. Drive more efficiently. Some ways to do this, include:
  • Accelerate gradually without over-revving
  • Always drive on the highest possible gear
  • If you can, allow your car to slow down naturally as your brake is a money burner
  • Re-starting your car is expensive, if you can keep moving

See Morrisons' website for a full list of exclusions.

You'll get just the one voucher per transaction so if you're doing an £80 shop it's best to split it into two £40 baskets.

Once you've got the voucher, simply show it at the petrol station kiosk to get the discount.

You can only use one coupon per fuel transaction and it only works if you're filling up less than 100 litres of fuel. You also need to pay at the kiosk, not at the pump.

Ashley Myers, head of fuel at Morrisons, said: “With the bank holiday and kids returning to school soon, this deal will help motorists save when they fill up."

The deal comes as garages, including Morrisons, were accused of "ripping off" drivers by the AA for not passing on a 4p-a-litre petrol price cut.

Petrol prices shot up in July pushing the average cost of tank of fuel to £71.01 – and experts warn that more hikes lay ahead.

This came after they fell for first time in four months in June.
