Met Office issue yellow weather warning for parts of UK with risk of 80mph winds

The Met Office has warned wind gusts of up to 80mph could hit the UK following the bright and sunny weekend.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for strong winds for parts of northern England and Scotland on Tuesday.

The severe weather could lead to travel chaos with a risk of cancellations and roads, trains, planes and ferry services being affected.

"There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties," the Met Office also warned.

The Met Office said: "A windy period is expected for parts of Scotland and northern England on Tuesday.

"The most likely scenario is for the strong or very strong winds to develop across coastal parts of northern and western Scotland, with strong gusts across parts of northern England, central and eastern Scotland.

"Gusts of 60-70 mph are possible, with potentially 70-80 mph gusts around some of the most exposed coastal sites."

The warning comes after the UK was told to prepare for floods with parts of the country set to be lashed with rain over the weekend.
