Meghan Markle's Favorite Restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto


It’s no secret that Meghan Markle is quite the foodie. In addition to being a master chef herself, she loves to experience different foods in different cities. In a November 2017 interview with Eyeswoon, she revealed her favorite restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Here they are listed below, along with a description of why each of them is so special.  

New York: Estela and Bohemian

According to the restaurant’s website, “Estela is a restaurant in downtown Manhattan from chef Ignacio Mattos. Set one floor above Houston Street, it is a bistro at heart, taking familiar ideas like tartare, ricotta dumplings, burrata on toast, fried rice, and steak, and presenting them in new, satisfying ways. The bar is open late, and you can come in for just a glass and a small bite, should you feel like it. Now in its 5th year, estela has earned numerous accolades, including a place on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List and two stars from both New York Magazine and the New York Times.”

Since Meghan Markle is such a fan of inventive spins on classic dishes, it’s no surprise Estela is one of her go-to New York hot spots.

The very exclusive Bohemian also makes the list. Bohemian is a Japanese restaurant and bar in New York that’s not open to the public (all new guests must be referred by existing patrons).

“We opened up a secret base for 21st century bohemians in a historical building once home to Andy Warhol and then the live-in studio of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the infamous graffiti artist from the 80s,” reads the restaurant’s website.

Kiyo is the president and executive chef who’s “an exceptional craftsman with an affinity for nature.”

Los Angeles: A.O.C. and Sushi Park

A.O.C. is a wine bar in Los Angeles, California that’s a favorite of Meghan Markle’s. Meghan Markle loves a good glass of wine, it’s one of her most-treasured indulgences.   

“After opening critically acclaimed Lucques in 1998, the duo of 3 time James Beard Award winning chef Suzanne Goin (Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America 2017, Outstanding Chef 2016, Best Chefs in America – California 2006, Best Cookbook – Cooking from a Professional Point of View 2006) and James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year 2018 Caroline Styne embarked on A.O.C., the area’s pioneering wine bar that first paired an indulgent list of wine by the glass with a menu of market-driven small plates,” reads the website.

Sushi Park may not appear as glamorous as the other restaurants on this list, but it’s still constantly packed with celebrities.

“This quintessential sushi spot is tucked away on the second floor of a nondescript strip mall on Sunset; it’s a good thing since seats (and opening hours) are limited. It’s strictly Omakase at the sushi bar, and well worth it—should you take this option, you’ll have to cross your fingers that the blue crab hand roll (more and more ubiquitous around LA, but still superb) and skipjack sashimi are on the night’s menu,” reads goop’s “Why We Love It” review.  

Toronto: The Harbord Room

The Harbord Room is now closed, but it used to be one of Meghan Markle’s favorite spots to eat when she was filming in Toronto. It was an intimate restaurant, seating about 24 and maybe 10 more at the bar, with a cozy feel. The Harbord Room was known for their expertly made cocktails, delicious burgers, and seasonally-inspired menu.
