Meghan Markle’s best friend posts defiant Instagram message in support of royal

Meghan Markle's best friend is throwing her support behind the Duchess as she and husband Prince Harry announced they will bid farewell to life as a royal.

Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney posted a quote on Instagram appearing to endorse the Duchess of Sussex's move.

"A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink," the message read.

The post attributes the quote to Gina Carey, an American gospel singer and filmmaker.

It was the same medium the Sussexes used to make the dramatic announcement of their plans yesterday in a move that blindsided Buckingham Palace.

The couple shocked the world and 'The Firm' when they published a post on Instagram declaring their intent to step away from royal duties.

The Sussexes plan to relinquish royal duties but maintain their patronages, dividing their time between North America and Britain as they worked to "become financially independent".

Meghan's pal could have a vested interest in supporting Meghan's decision, given the speculation that the couple will shift to Canada, bringing the best friends closer together.

Californian-born Meghan lived in Toronto for years as she filmed seven series of the popular US legal drama Suits, bringing the fame that brought her to her future husband's attention.

Meghan has many friends in Canada, including close confidante Mulroney, a 40-year-old stylist who also appears on ABC's Good Morning America.

Mulroney also posted a love-heart emoji in the comments underneath an Instagram post by Katie Couric that shared the news of Harry and Meghan's announcement.

The stylist is married to Ben Mulroney, son of a former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, with whom she has three children.

She and Meghan were frequently pictured in social media posts of the friends' holidays.

Reports have claimed that Meghan was able to secretly carry out the early days of her romance with Prince Harry and Canada by dining with the Mulroneys, to avoid the spectacle of public outings.

The couple attended Harry and Meghan's wedding, and their children were page boys and flower girl in the ceremony.

They have also backed the couple's patronages, most recently attending the closing ceremony of 2017 Invictus Games, the tournament Harry founded for wounded, injured and sick former military veterans.

Mulroney's post is not the first time she's rallied to defend her Duchess friend.

In August, she posted a diatribe against British news media and "racist" bullies over the public criticism of the couple for using a private jet in spite of their endorsement of environmental causes.

The couple faced heat after it emerged they had flown on private jest four times in the space of 11 days ast summer, including to Sir Elton John's villa and to Ibiza to celebrate Meghan's birthday.

"When someone faces unfair criticism, you call it out. When that person is your friend and your family, you call those critics what they truly are. Shame on you, you racist bullies," Mulroney wrote.

She added: "Three years of undeserved hate and abuse. It's enough."

Mulroney had also previously shared a tweet from British actress Jameela Jamil, who accused Meghan critics of bullying the royal over her race.
