WATCHING Donald Trump have his tan topped up and Kate Middleton get her hair done, it feels like I’m in a weird celebrity beauty salon.

Actually, I’m in Madame Tussauds London as the talented artists get figures of the rich and famous ready to wow the public.

After having my temperature checked and sanitising my hands, I drift down the red carpet like an A-lister at a Hollywood party.

I pass Brad Pitt, Posh and Becks, and Tom Hardy, before bumping into acting royalty Dame Judi Dench.

I then find myself in even more regal company alongside the Queen, before squaring up to the attraction’s latest addition – boxing great Anthony Joshua, whose 6ft 6in figure towers over me.

And I can’t shake off the feeling that Taylor Swift isn’t really on stage with me.

But then I get to tour the studios where the figures get ready to join the London hall of fame – and my jaw hits the floor.

The level of detail that goes into every eyelash, fingernail and freckle is unbelievable.

Each hair is individually inserted with a needle and painting the face is so intricate it takes two weeks to perfect a celebrity’s skin tone.

I watch in awe as colour artist Clare Parkes blends Benedict Cumberbatch’s ears to get just the right shade.

Studio manager Jo Kinsey jokes: “You spend a lot of time with one face. But it’s not a bad face to look at!”

And while the skin is important, Jo argues it is “sparkly eyes” that are the key to making a figure come alive.

She adds: “Eye colours are matched exactly. We look at the outer ring, the iris itself and even the white.”

It takes up to six months to make a figure, but they also need regular touch-ups – especially One Direction – due to adoring fans smothering them in kisses.
