Lidl is selling a violet and blackberry infused gin

FORGET traditional Christmas booze, Lidl is bringing out a violet and blackberry flavoured gin in time for the festive season.

The botanical tipple is bright purple in colour and it's the latest drink to be released from the award-winning Hortus range.

From the sounds of it, gin drinkers can expect a fruity and floral hit from the violet liquor.

One eagle-eyed customer was met with a flurry of excited comments after dropping a post about the gin on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group.

Judging from the replies, shoppers are already eager to get their hands on a bottle, which comes in 70cl and has a 40 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV) content.

The bottle will be in stores from November 23 for £15.99.

One person said: "I saw it today might have to get myself some."

While another added: "This sounds nice."

Lidl hasn't listed this particular Hortus gin on its website yet so you'll need to pop to your nearest store to find one.

There's 760 Lidl supermarkets in the UK and you can find your nearest one by using the online store finder.

We couldn't find another retailer selling violet and blackberry gin, but Sainsbury's sells a bottle by Whitley Neil that tastes just of blackberry for £20.

Aldi also sells a parma violet gin liqueur that shimmers when you shake it for £9.99.

As always, remember to drink sensibly and be DrinkAware.

Gin drinkers won't want to miss Asda’s new festive range including toasted marshmallow and mince pie flavoured gins.

If you're more fussed about Halloween, Tesco is selling a gin made with "cursed" fruit for a spooky twist on your tipple.

And Home Bargains has a shimmery blood orange flavoured gin to add zest to your gin and tonic.
