What doesn’t kill them makes them stronger.

Kelly Clarkson admitted it “kills” her that her children are “really sad” after her divorce from their father, Brandon Blackstock.

“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling, ‘Are you happy? And if you’re not, what could make you happier?’” the “Breakaway” singer — who shares daughter River, 8, and son Remington, 6, with Blackstock — said on the “Angie Martinez IRL” podcast Monday.

“It kills me, and I want them to be honest, so I don’t ever say, ‘Oh God, don’t tell me that,’” she continued, “but a lot of times it would be like, ‘You know, I’m just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.’”

But Clarkson, 40, is grateful that her kids are so open with her about their feelings.

“They’re really honest about it,” she said. “I’m raising that kind of individual. I want you to be honest with me.”

The “American Idol” alum, whose parents divorced when she was younger, shared how much she understands what her kids are going through.

“I just sit there, and I’m like, ‘I get it. I’m from a divorced family as well. I get it. That sucks. But we’re going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us,’” she said.

Clarkson explained that communication and acknowledging her children’s emotions are key elements of her parenting style.

“I think communicating with them and not treating them — not treating them like an adult, because they’re not, but not treating them like a child. They’re not small feelings. Those are huge feelings, and those are huge emotions,” she said of how she approaches their struggles.

One question River and Remington frequently ask their mom is whether she still has love for their dad.

“My kids ask me all the time, ‘So you don’t love him anymore?’ I’m like, ‘No, I don’t know if that goes away,’” she explained.

While Clarkson is open to dating, she admitted that her parents’ divorce took an emotional toll on her, so much so that she wouldn’t want her children to go through the same pain.

“I didn’t have the most positive experience with step-situations and remarrying, and I didn’t have the most positive situation growing up,” she noted. “I will not do that to my children. I would love to fall in love, but I don’t want another dude in my house with my children.”

The “Kelly Clarkson Show” host filed for divorce from Blackstock, 46, in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. They were declared legally single in August 2021.

Their divorce was expensive and bitter, with the exes battling over the custody of their kids as well as their $10.4 million Montana ranch.

They reached a settlement in March 2022, with Clarkson winning the estate and primary custody of their children.
