Kate Middleton, 39, and Prince William, 38, spoke to staff about the challenges of education during the coronavirus pandemic. The visit from the Duke and Duchess also marked the rollout of a mental health project to secondary schools for pupils which is partially funded by the Royal Foundation.

It was the first in-person public appearance from the couple this year.

Due to the lockdown that is currently in place nationwide, the royal couple swapped face-to-face engagements for virtual video calls.

Throughout the past months, Kate and William have spoken to several people including organisations and charities to hear about their work throughout the ongoing pandemic.

The visit from the couple also comes just days after Meghan sat down with famous chat show host Oprah for a rare interview with an appearance from Prince Harry.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James analysed Kate and William’s signals today.

She said: “It could be apt that Kate chose to wear a colour called ‘Shocking Pink’ for this outing because, unlike the more submissive pastel pink she wore for her recent video call, this chic, strong, memorable shade of pink is the one you wear to get noticed and to make a statement.

“It’s the opposite of keeping your head down.”

The pink colour of Kate’s top and coat, according to Judi, suggests the royal is confident.

“This eye-catching shade suggests self-confidence and with the tailored cut of the coat; the slick pony tail and the way Kate sticks her small bag into one hand to stride out with her arms held away from her torso,” added the expert.

Judi continued: “That air of resilient self-confidence seems to be a very congruent and emphatic message here.”

While the couple were visiting the school, the couple spoke with various students including Kate playing with them in the playground.

The Duchess can be seen bending down to communicate with the children, a common technique used by the royal when speaking to children.

What did Judi make of this pose?

She said: “Kate’s technique of bending right down to the child’s height rather than just bending from the waist to peer down, shows her desire to create empathy  and her mirroring of husband William is still a revelation.”

The couple, who have been married since 2011, regularly mirror each other’s body language, especially when sitting down and speaking to others.

Judi added: “Even back-to-back here the couple use intense postural echo, standing posed with feet slightly splayed and their hands clasped in front of their torsos as they chat to each of their hosts.

“This gesture suggests team Cambridge is as tight as ever, with shared thinking and a desire to create an impression of an evenly-balanced double-act.”

For the occasion, Kate opted for a beautiful pink coat along with a scallop detailed jumper from high-street brand Boden.

She paired the look with her £250 Gianvito Rossi heels, a staple in the Duchess’ shoe collection.

For accessories, the royal added her Jaeger black quilted bag called the ‘Kate’ style, a bag which she has been seen wearing since 2012.
