DEAR DEIDRE: SHE was only 38 but my lovely sister-in-law has died of an aggressive cancer.

I’m so worried about my brother and his kids.

He is 37 and their two girls are ten and eight. I think they’re all still in shock.

She was only diagnosed six weeks before she died.

She was in hospital before the end. My brother and the girls were hardly allowed to see her because of Covid-19, and now they can’t even have a proper funeral to say goodbye.

I’d normally have gone to stay with him and look after them all, but lockdown makes that impossible, especially as my husband has a public-facing job.

DEIDRE SAYS: Keep on phoning and messaging your brother and the girls just to say you love them.

Can you maybe do their food shop for them and leave it on the doorstep?

My e-leaflet Have You Lost Someone Through Cancer? explains support.

Winston’s Wish can help with lots of practical ideas for bereaved children (winstonswish.org, 08088 020 021). And help plan a memorial service when the restrictions lift.
