I'm a single mum-of-3 and have been left with NOTHING after I suddenly lost my job – I don't know how I'll feed my kids

A SINGLE mum-of-three has been left battling to feed her kids after suddenly losing her job.

Rachel Hughes was left "with nothing" when Morlo Nursery in Holyhead, Wales – where she had worked for 17 years – suddenly went bust.

The mum has been forced to apply for help from a foodbank just to feed her kids Ava, four, Isabella, nine, and Amelia, 10.

Rachel said she was told in an emergency meeting that there was no money to pay staff wages – and it could take nine months to get the money.

She said: "It's so upsetting because I'm single mother to three girls and the wages I'm supposed to get on Monday is supposed to cover my rent, my food, and now I have nothing.

"I've been crying all day because I don't know how I'm going to feed my kids.

"I've had to apply for the foodbank – which I've never done in my life – and I've had to apply for a gas voucher so I can keep my children warm.

"How can I possibly look after and bring up my children with no money?"

Rachel says the last-minute decision to close the nursery has left her with "nowhere to turn".

"How can they just drop that bombshell on us and leave us with nothing?

"I've got people telling me to reach out but what happens when you reach out and don't get any help? What do I do?"

Rachel fears what could happen if she doesn't find a job quickly enough to pay her bills and put food on the table.

"I started applying for jobs as soon as I got told the news, I have already sent off applications even though it's only been two days, I need to find a job ASAP."

She added: "The management has just been awful, it's been horrific and now as a result, all of our livelihoods have been taken off us.

"They even had us work last month, knowing that they weren't going to pay us. It's just disgusting."

Rachel said she did the job "for the love of the children".

The Directors of Meithrinfa Morlo Nursery Ltd were approached but said they were unable to offer further comment at this stage.

What help is available for struggling families?

Many households are struggling at the moment as a cost of living crisis is pushing up the cost of essentials including food, petrol and energy.

If you are finding it difficult to cope, you should check to see if you're eligible for any help.

Millions of people may be missing out on benefits they don't realise they're eligible for.

Entitledto's free calculator can help you work out whether you qualify for various benefits, tax credits and Universal Credit.

You might also be able to get assistance from your council's Household Support Fund.

Check which local authority you fall under on the government’s website by using the local council checker tool.

Each authority decides the type and amount of support it will offer to families, with many councils opting to give out food or fuel vouchers.

Families with young children might be able to get Healthy Start Vouchers worth up to £442.

You could also get support from other schemes, for example low income families can get free or cheap fridges, carpets and furniture.
