I lost my home thanks to Covid and moved in with my boyfriend – now he wants me out

04/22/2021

DEAR DEIDRE: IN the pandemic I lost my job, home and relationship.

My daughter and I have been sofa surfing and I worry we’ll soon be homeless.

Everything started to unravel when I lost my job last April thanks to Covid. I’m a woman of 26.

I didn’t have much in the way of savings so my boyfriend suggested me and my daughter, then two, move in with him. But he soon got sick of us taking up his space.

By October he’d had enough and gave us a week to move out. We’ve crashed with friends until now but are running out of options.

My social worker and housing officer are trying to help me find somewhere but nothing is within budget. I don’t have the money for more than a month’s rent.

The worry is keeping me up at night.
