Hundreds of families to get £30 per child supermarket voucher before Christmas

Households should double check that they have received a £30 supermarket voucher in time for Christmas as councils hand out the bonus.

Across the UK, families and low income households are being given the cash to help with the festivities.

And, millions of pounds are being handed out to those who earn under a certain level or who claim particular benefits.

The Household Support Fund is a £500million pot of money spread across councils Britain-wide.

Local authorities can help struggling families in their areas using the cash.

The support on offer varies by council, but if your local authority is taking part then you could receive the extra money.

People in Cambridgeshire could be offered a £30 supermarket voucher while other eligible families in different zones have been offered cash or vouchers towards bills.

To find out for your council offers, and if you’re eligible, you’ll need to contact your local council.

You can find out who your local authority is on the site.

For example, Cambridgeshire County Council is offering the payment to those who earn less than £17,940 a year or people on certain benefits like Income support, Job Seekers allowance, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.

These earners can get help with bills or essentials like boiler repairs but they are also being offered £30 of food shop vouchers per child.

So, if your youngster is eligible for free school meals, funded support or early years pupil premium, or if they’re 16 to 19 and get free school meals or the 16+ bursary you should automatically receive a voucher.

You’ll get a text from “SchoolMeals” that shows you how to claim it.

Brits around the country should check whether their local council offers a similar payment.
