Holby City spoilers: Amelia and Jac receive an update on their brain tumours

01/18/2022

At the beginning of tonight’s Holby City we see both Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) and Amelia Ebrahimi (Lucy Briggs-Owen) having scans. Both the women have brain tumours and have been on the same experimental treatment programme, but as Eli (Davood Ghadami) delivers the results to Max (Jo Martin) it’s clear that at least one of them is going to be dealing with very bad news. Is it Amelia or Jac? Or both?

Whatever the news for Jac, she seems more worried about the future of Holby and is issuing orders to her team from her hospital bed – including asking Eli if he’d be willing to perform a very risky operation on her. Will he agree?

The ever-dependable Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw), meanwhile, is wondering whether his immediate future lies at Holby at all. He’s seriously considering Regina Marriott (Karen Ascoe)’s offer of a job at St James’s. Surely Fletch wouldn’t abandon Holby in its hour of need?

Amid all the seriousness there are some lighthearted moments between Russ Faber (Simon Slater) and Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry), when they get their packed lunches mixed up. Hanssen’s face as he contemplates eating a white bread roll with ham in it rather than the healthy delicacy he was expecting is a picture.

Dominic (David Ames) and Sacha (Bob Barrett) try to come up with a suitable research idea, and when a patient we’ve met before returns, Dominic thinks he might have found the very thing.

And Josh (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge) keeps getting phone calls from Claudia – the woman he met at the support group. Should Ange (Dawn Steele) be getting worried?

Sue Haasler is the author of five novels and the official BBC Holby City book, which you can read about here.
