Here’s what Camila Cabello stole from Kensington Palace

11/27/2019

When you get a once-in-a-lifetime invitation, do you resist the urge to take a souvenir or nick something on a triple-dog-dare? That was the dilemma Camila Cabello faced when she was at Kensington Palace for the Teen Hero Awards in October (via Daily Mail).

During an interview with DJ Greg James on BBC1 radio, Cabello says that while the group was waiting for Prince William and Kate Middleton to arrive, James had egged her on to take something, and pointed to a pencil as an easy target. Cabello had then asked James if he was triple daring her, and when he admitted he was, she replied, “You can’t not do a triple-doggy dare. If there’s anything I’ve learnt in my life it’s that, so I did it.”

William and Kate respond to the theft

The tale doesn’t end there. Cabello then says she slipped the pencil into her mother’s handbag, as James is informing Palace staff members of the “theft.” By now, Cabello says her mom had asked her to return the “stolen goods,” but Cabello’s response was, “No, he triple-doggy-dared me, I have to take the pencil so I still have it.”

She ends her confession with, “I’m sorry William and I’m sorry Kate.” Far from keeping things a secret, James and BBC1 made sure a clip of the confession made it on to Twitter, and then tagged Kensington Palace — the official Cambridge Twitter account. The Palace gamely replied with the emoji with two eyes wide open (via Hello!). The reaction might (or might not) have been from Wills or Kate, but someone is letting Cabello know they’re keeping their eyes on her.

This wouldn’t be the first time BBC1 DJ Greg James has gotten into a pickle with the Palace. During the same event, he was pulled aside and received a telling off from William and Kate for making fun of Princess Charlotte because she shook hands with her teacher during her first day of school.
