Fashion’s Most Popular Trend Will Also Put You in a Good Mood

Tie-dye didn’t think it would be here, in the introductory sentence of its ten-thousandth style story mention. I don’t know tie-dye personally but feel pretty confident in saying its recent ascent to fame and acceptance amongst the high-fashion and Hollywood crowd probably came as a shock. Tie-dye wasn’t meant for the big leagues. It was meant for summer camp. And then the weight of the world got too heavy and designers started incorporating the colorful technique into their collections along with childish hair accessories and babydoll dresses. For a couple seasons now, fashion has been a little more play and a little less serious. Now tie-dye is everywhere. 

As someone who has been living in tie-dye t-shirts and sweats for what feels like the past one hundred days, I can confirm it’s as comforting as all the thinkpieces would suggest. It makes people smile while I walk my dog, and it makes me feel less sad when I look at myself in the mirror after working on the couch for eight hours straight. Celebrities apparently also agree and have been wearing tie-dye sweat suits from brands like Cotton Citizen and Madewell excessively. Just when it seemed like tie-dye had run its course, 2020 happened. 

Tie-dye is now having a second wind. And while tie-dye won’t solve any of the world’s current issues, wearing a tie-dye hoodie or a pair of tie-dye leggings can at least ease some of our anxiety. Since everyone clearly has the same idea, it’s increasingly harder to find a piece of tie-dye apparel online that isn’t sold out.
