Fans Can't Believe Lisa Vanderpump from 'RHOBH' Made This 'Transphobic' Remark

05/22/2019

Although Lisa Vanderpump from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has enjoyed a very fierce following, a comment she made about a cast member left fans feeling a little less than amorous about the resident Brit.

Vanderpump agreed to take a lie detector test about whether or not she planted the infamous Radar Online “puppy gate” story. She passed the test with flying colors but it was a comment she made in a confessional interview that has her in hot water with fans.

One reason fans are especially outraged is that Vanderpump has been a loyal advocate for the LGBTQ community. Her Pride parties are legendary and she has shown her support for transgender SUR hostess Billie Lee.

The comment that shocked fans

Vanderpump is known for throwing some pretty significant snarky shade. Some comments have even raised eyebrows but she’s shrugged them off as British jokes. Most recently the show focused on how different British humor is versus American humor. So was this just some fun British ribbing on her part?

The comment she made was about Erika Girardi. “Just don’t ask me if Erika’s tucking it under, or something like that, because there are some things I can’t lie about,” Vanderpump said. The term “tucking” is a reference to a practice known in the drag and trans community.

Moments after the comment was televised, fans reacted. Normally, fans are team Vanderpump all the way, no matter what happens. Fans believe the women on the show have bullied Vanderpump and have turned against the entire cast on social media.

But this time, fan reaction was very different

Some acknowledged that this was Vanderpump’s attempt at a joke, but it went too far. “It was WoW…but inappropriate. I think I saw humor & an attempt of levity in a less than desirable situation in this hurtful season of RHOBH,” one person wrote.

Another picked up on the whole “British” humor notion. But most were stunned if not offended by the comment. “Oof. Making transphobic jokes is soooo not cool, even if you are someone who does a lot for the LGBTQ+ community. Know better. Be better,” writer Dave Quinn wrote. “Or maybe transphobic jokes is just part of that British humor thing she talks about all the time?”

Also, the tide seemed to turn a bit against Vanderpump during this pivotal moment. Fans were also not exactly buying the lie detector results either. “Wow Lisa saying @erikajayne if Erika tucks or not is disgusting and I’m not buying this lie test that proves nothing. Those little bitches johns sold the story your still guilty bitch,” a Twitter user wrote.

No comment, but this from Girardi

Although Girardi did not directly comment, she retweeted a remark from transgender activist Candis Cayne. “Oh come on @lisavanderpump joking about @erikajayne ‘tucking’ Ugly Trans jokes marginalizing our community are not acceptable. Being an ally doesn’t give you a free pass To make transphobic remarks. Do better.”

Thus far, Lee has also yet to comment. Lee has been a vocal advocate for trans-rights and often clashed this season with the Vanderpump Rules cast, accusing them of being transphobic. However, Lisa Rinna made this statement on Twitter. “Who knew Lvp was transphobic? Well, we know NOW!”
