Dragons' Den fans all say the same thing as Peter Jones' calls £2,000 'a night out'

01/26/2022

DURING last night’s Dragon’s Den episode, which marked the show’s return to the BBC, Peter Jones caused a stir among viewers when he called £2,000 “a night out”.

The first to face millionaire Peter Jones and his fellow dragons were London-based duo Edward Hancock and Richard Simpson.

The hopeful pair, who have been pals since their teens, were on the popular BBC show to secure funds for their cheese business, Cheese Geek.

The company offers both one-off and subscription boxes of the whiffy product, and Edward and Richard offered a three percent stake in the cheesy firm for an investment of £100,000.

They believed this would make Cheese Geek the “dominant brand” in the UK cheese industry and beyond.

After some tough questions from the other dragons, it was Peter Jones’ turn to grill the lads (toastie pun fully intended), and he was less than impressed.

As the panel chuckled, Peter said: “I’ve got to say, your valuation is smellier than your cheese”.

The boys smirked as he continued: “Why have you come in here with such a ridiculous valuation?”

Edward, who described himself as “a numbers guy”,  justified their valuation, adding that he’d personally invested £720,000 in the business.

“Yeah, it was a kinda crazy thing to do”, he admitted.

A back-and-forth later and Peter eventually scoffed at the numbers, saying there was no chance he’d see returns from an investment higher than £2,000.

“That’s not profit, that’s a night out”, said the big cheese.

And Twitter lost the plot, with one viewer writing: “£2k on a night out! Need to go party with these lot!”

A second, who felt the exact same, added: “‘£2,000, that’s not a profit that’s a night out’ – bagsy going out with Peter Jones for a night”.

A third chirped: “Wish someone would take me on a night out with that! With this said… any chance on a night out”.

And a disgusted Fourth commented: “So, when Peter Jones says £2,000 is a ‘night out’ – when that same figure could be what most people will be paying to heat their homes during 2022 – I am horrified at such crass comments!”
