A movie extra who says she’s missed out on roles due to a lipoma on her forehead which looks like a ‘third nipple’ finally has it removed on Dr Pimple Popper.

Tonight’s episode of the TLC show focuses on the usually bright and confident Felicia, 47, from the US, whose self-esteem has been at rock bottom for the past three years due to the massive, unusual lump on her forehead. 

‘It’s kind of soft at the top, but then it’s hard right at the centre,’ she reveals. 

Located dead centre in the middle of her forehead, Felicia’s lump is dark and pronounced, sticking out of the skin above her eyebrows. 

‘I wish this thing would come out, it’s so hard and so big,’ she says, explaining that the lump first appeared as a small nodule under the skin.

But unfortunately, Felicia has been her own worst enemy, revealing that her constant picking and prodding has exacerbated the lump, causing it to grow bigger. 

‘It started out as a small lump underneath the skin, so I decided I’ll just burst it,’ she explains. ‘A little liquid came out of it, all clear, and that’s when it when downhill from there, because I pick with it all the time, constantly.’ 

Unable to leave the lump alone, Felicia admits that her persistent meddling has made the lump worse over time.

‘The more I pick it, the darker it gets,’ she adds. ‘It looks worse every time I look at it, it looks darker. But that still doesn’t stop me from messing with it.’

To make matters worse, the lump has stopped Felicia from appearing in films as an extra, as she’s forced to wear wigs to cover the lump. 

‘I used to take a lot of pictures with my natural hair, showing more of my face, which includes my forehead, and I would submit the pictures to be an extra in movies,’ Felicia explains. 

WHAT IS A LIPOMA?

Lipomas are non-cancerous lumps caused by an overgrowth of fat cells.

They can form anywhere on the body, but are most common on the neck, shoulders, abdomen and back.

They are usually just under the skin, shaped like a dome and soft to touch.

They occur in about one in every 1,000 people in the US. and about one in 100 people in the UK.

Doctors are unsure of what causes lipomas, but believe it may be due to an inherited faulty gene or physical trauma

Most do not cause any pain unless they are deep in the body and press on nerves or organs.

If a lipoma affects the bowels, it may cause constipation and nausea.

Most lipomas do not need removing, but surgery may be necessary if the growth is large, causing symptoms or unsightly.

‘But I know that the lump on my forehead is not something a Casting Director would want to see. If I don’t wear a wig with bangs, I’m not going to get hired for the job. So, that’s a big problem.’

In a bid to get her skin looking picture perfect once again, Felicia makes the journey to California to see if Dr Sandra Lee can remove the lump once and for all.

‘I am so excited to be in California,’ Felicia says. ‘I’m just going to keep my hopes high and hope that she can get in and pop this baby out.’ 

Sat down with the expert, Felicia explains how she first tried to remove the lump, causing the skin to go darker over time. For Dr Lee, this is a problem. 

‘The darkening of Felicia’s skin is really caused by her,’ Dr Lee says. ‘It’s caused by her picking at it, scratching at it, the area darkens and the larger it gets the more difficult it is to remove this completely.’ 

With full PPE on, Dr Lee inspects Felicia’s lump, and offers her spot diagnosis, which catches Felicia off guard. 

‘If I were to guess, it’s more like a lipoma,’ Dr Lee starts. ‘Now this bump on top is definitely prurigo, what they say is a pickers nodule, it almost looks like a little nipple!’ 

Despite Felicia’s manipulation of the lump over time causing problems, Dr Lee is confident she can remove it. 

But after having had her consultation, it’s clear to Felicia that this will be no easy task – even for an expert. 

‘I made my bump have a very dark discolouring because I kept picking with it,’ she says. ‘So now Dr Lee has two issues to deal with: the lump on my forehead, and then how to get my skin back to its original color.’

After injecting the bump with a local anesthetic, Dr Lee slowly carves into Felicia’s skin, peeling the back the skin. 

‘My goal, as always on the face, is to remove as little normal skin as possible, leaving you with the smallest scar,’ Dr Lee explains. ‘In Felicia’s case, she’s got this large darkened area on her skin and I’m trying to remove as much of that as I can.’

As a result of Felicia’s fiddling, the skin has thickened, making it harder for Dr Lee to burrow down and see what’s causing the lump. 

Digging her way down into Felicia’s forehead, the expert prizes away the flesh, revealing a glimpse of some fatty, orange tissue. That confirms it – it’s a lipoma.

‘I finally reached the lump, and it does turn out to be a lipoma, but it was hard to get to because the skin on top was so thick,’ Dr Lee explains. ‘She has really picked at this area, it is the thickest forehead skin I have ever seen.’ 

After reaching the lipoma, the expert plucks it out of the Felicia’s head, popping it into a tray. Next up, is stitching up Felicia’s forehead. 

‘I was able to remove Felicia’s adorable lipoma and much of that darkened nipple on her forehead,’ Dr Lee warns. ‘It was a challenge because I had to leave some of the darkened tissue, so it really is important that she keeps her hands off of it. With time, it will look really good.’ 

Setting eyes on the disembodied lipoma for the first time, Felicia can barely believe that is what Dr Lee found inside her forehead. 

‘A little shrimp, a little nipple, a little liquid,’ she laughs. 

Feeling like a million dollar movie star once again, Felicia is ready to get back out into the world, adding: ‘I can’t believe I waited so long to get the lump out of my forehead. I am so happy that it has now happened, I feel like crying!’
