A dog walker was knocked unconscious by a stranger for not having her five pets on leads in the park.

Jeannette Carroll, 51, was punched to the floor and had to have her teeth painfully rewired after the brutal attack at Flatts Lane Country Park in Middlesbrough last Tuesday.

She was walking her pets when an agitated man shouted "get these f***ing dogs on leads".

Jeannette approached him and tried to calm the situation before he launched a savage punch to the face – knocking her unconscious for around 20 seconds.

One week later, Jeannette, who has slammed the state of modern policing, says police still haven't taken a statement from her.

Ms Carroll said: "It was totally unexpected.

"I had gone over to reassure him, if people are nervous I will put the dogs on a lead.

"I didn't see the punch coming, when I woke up I was covered in blood."

Ms Carroll went to the accident and emergency department at James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where she spent six hours being treated for her injuries – including stitches in her lip and having three loose teeth rewired.

Police said they are reviewing their response to the incident and lessons will be learned, reports Teesside Live .

She added: "There's been no investigation and two people attacked by a random stranger in a place where people go to walk their dogs.

"I think it's a massive reflection of how things are going.

"I got brought up with good morals and the last thing you would expect is a man hitting a woman."

She said she has to keep walking dogs to earn a living but is now afraid to do so.

Despite contacting police around half a dozen times, she said an officer still hasn't been out to see her and take a statement about the serious assault.

She claims that an officer was rude to her on the phone and "a let down to the police".

"It's unacceptable", she said. "I'm frustrated, I feel let down, I'm very, very anxious."

She added: "I would consider myself pro police and I have total respect that they have to work through these cuts.

"But to have somebody phone up when you are nervous and anxious and show no empathy, I was just disgusted."

There have been no arrests made.

The alleged attacker is described as a man in his 50s with a beard and around 5ft 11" tall.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police received a report of an assault on Flatts Lane at around 1.30pm on Tuesday 17 September.
