Dad starts home Olympic games to entertain kids during lockdown

Parents are having to be creative to entertain their kids in lockdown.

And some are absolutely nailing it. Dad-of-five Lex Valishvili is one of them.

Lex has been coming up with Olympics-inspired games to entertain his children while they’re at home during the pandemic.

And he’s been really committing to it, setting up all sorts of activities including bobsledding, curling, and cycling.

Lex, who blogs his parenting journey with partner Tanya, has amassed quite a following, with more than 30,000 followers.

The children – aged between eight years and six months – are loving his creativity and look forward to a new sport each day.

The devoted dad had the idea after seeing the Olympics in Japan were cancelled as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Since then, he’s used several household items to recreate the events at home.

Lex said: ‘Being home with five kids called for extra creativity.

‘I saw that the Olympic games 2020 were rescheduled and I got an idea to recreate some sports in a fun way.

‘So far, bobsledding was fun for the kids and a good workout for me.’

Lex also encourages other parents to get involved in creating games at home.

He has shared instructions on how other mums and dads can set up the activities using everyday objects.

For the curling event, Lex wrote: ‘All you’ll need is a mop, something round what can slide on the floor (hover ball, Roomba vacuum, etc.) and good attitude!’

For indoor cycling, he said: ‘Set up the bike by lifting the back tire (on bikes with training wheels) or taking the chain off (on bikes with no training wheels), turn on any cycling video on TV (search for “bicycle POV”) and enjoy your freedom while kids will be entertained and getting a nice workout in!’

What a brilliant idea.
