A dark food stain on a white garment, that’s one way to cause a cleaning headache. One woman was facing such a conundrum with a white school shirt and tomato sauce.

She posted in Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips: Any suggestions for getting baked bean sauce out of a white school t-shirt?”

The woman revealed the top had only been worn by a son once and was anxious to get it clean.

A number of Facebook users recommended washing up liquid.

They advised rubbing the stain with washing up liquid before treating the top with something else.

One wrote: “Washing up liquid and wash as normal.”

Another said: “Rub with Fairy original then spray with elbow grease and into the wash…removes any stains I’ve had with food etc.”

“Washing up liquid and a hot setting with some pink stuff oxy type powder in the machine with your normal wash,” another said.

A number of cleaning fans recommended Elbow Grease spray.

The “all purpose degreaser” works on fabrics, metals and plastic.
