Celebrity stylist Karla Welch shares her work-from-home outfit advice

As a stylist who counts celebrities like Justin Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, Olivia Wilde and Sarah Paulson as clients, Karla Welch is used to a super-busy schedule — particularly during awards season.

And while the coronavirus pandemic may have brought red carpets and events to a halt, the wardrobe whiz is still finding ways to keep the creative juices flowing.

“You know, some days I’m not inspired at all,” Welch told Page Six Style. “Some days, I’m making bread. The thing about me is that I’ve always got lots of projects outside of styling, so there is plenty to keep me busy. I do really miss all my peeps though!”

One such project is her new collaboration with Dockers, her second with the brand. Priced from $128 to $248, it’s comprised of six utilitarian pieces in classic khaki and pale pink, all of which Welch swears are “so comfy” for days spent working remotely.

“Thank goodness, because fitted pants would have been a bummer right now,” she said.

When it comes to logging long hours at a home office, Welch recommends soft but stylish bottoms (she says the pants she designed for Dockers “feel like sweats”), along with cozy knits that show a hint of skin. “I love the little cardigan with nothing under, zipped up,” she explained.

And don’t forget a pop of color — all the better to “liven up your next Zoom call,” according to the stylist.

“For most of us, I think work-from-home attire requires comfort, obviously. But also, an element of style and presentability,” added Janine Chilton-Faust, global VP of men’s design for Dockers’ parent company, Levi Strauss & Co.

“You can feel good wearing any of these pieces in your own way, creating an outfit that expresses you and allows you to move productively and positively throughout your day.”

And while Welch’s job usually calls for in-person fittings and close contact with clients, she says she’s been able to continue styling from home.

“The great thing is, I’ve been with most of my clients for many years, so I can see a look and know it’s going to work,” she said.
