Captain Tom launches his own gin and you can buy it now

Captain Sir Tom Moore has done a lot of good this year.

Now, he’s set to bring joy in a new way: in the form of gin.

The 100-year-old veteran has teamed up with Otterbeck Distillery to launch his very own gin, with proceeeds going to charity.

Called Captain Sir Tom’s London Dry Gin, the drink is described as a ‘delicate and herbaceous London dry with soft hints of citrus, rosemary, and thyme. Fresh and aromatic reminiscent of an English Summer Garden’.

That sounds both very Sir Tom and very delicious, especially when paired with an ice cold tonic water.

This might seem a bit random, but the collaboration actually makes a lot of sense.

The World War 2 veteran has previously said a G&T is his favourite tipple… so why not make his own gin?

When Sir Tom met the co-owner of Otterbeck Distillery, Dougie Lampkin, while making A Day In The Life Of Captain Tom, it was a perfect match, as they bonded not only over booze but a love for the Yorkshire Dales and vintage motorbikes.

Sit Tom mentioned offhand that he would quite like to have his own gin, and Dougie decided to make it happen, creating a spirit reminiscent of his Yorkshire garden.

The bottles are now available to buy for £35.95, with proceeds going towards The Captain Tom Foundation.

Nicola Lampkin, the founder of Otterbeck Distillery, said: ‘It is an amazing privilege to be working with Captain Sir Tom and his foundation which supports some incredible charities.

‘We’re delighted to be able to do our bit to help support such worthwhile causes.

‘Captain Sir Tom has captured the imagination of the world and we’re proud to have distilled a very special gin with a very special man.’

Hannah Ingram-Moore, Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter, added: ‘On behalf of Captain Sir Tom and family we are delighted to be in partnership with Otterbeck Distillery and sincerely look forward to our journey together.

‘We feel an electric connection to Yorkshire so working with a gin based here is so special to us as we continue to build our family legacy and celebrate our heritage.’

What do you reckon – is this the perfect gift for Christmas 2020? Or do you plan to buy a bottle for yourself?
