Queen Elizabeth and Camilla took part in a joint engagement today which saw the royals speak with members of the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS). During the chat, the pair spoke to various different volunteers who have supported the most vulnerable throughout the pandemic.

The Queen has been a patron of the RVS for more than seven decades while Camilla is president of the association.

In the virtual call, the Monarch said: “Thank you very much indeed, very interesting to hear what you (have) been doing, I think it’s wonderful work and I do thank everybody for, and all the others too, who have been volunteering it’s been a great, great help over this very difficult year.”

The Duchess of Cornwall also thanked the volunteers for their work as she sat in Clarence House.

The 94-year-old Queen has made several virtual appearances throughout the pandemic while other royals are back to official in-person engagements.

Analysing the pair’s body language, expert Judi James told Express.co.uk what the royals signals showed in her professional opinion.

She said: “Is it possible to detect a slight veneer of frost between the Queen and her daughter-in-law here as they double-up on a video call?

“The Queen is still very much in charge here, taking total control of the meeting with an air of leadership that belies her age.

“Her ‘Hello Camilla!’ sounds more like a military greeting than anything warmer and although Camilla embarks on some mother-in-law/daughter-in-law repartee, with a much more humorous ‘Good morning, how are you?’ it really does look as though the Queen is keener to get down to business.”

The expert added that when Camilla asks how the Queen is, she leans in closer towards the camera.

However, it appears the monarch is looking at the rest of the faces in the virtual call.

Judi said: “As Camilla leans forward with a smile of recognition the Queen’s eye contact seems to be in the virtual room full of faces in front of her.

“Her ‘Fine, thank you!’ could define the word ‘stoic’ and although her body language suggests that’s the end of the family-based chat, Camilla pushes on with a ‘Very nice to see you’ which is closed down by the Queen.

“Despite all the recent dramas the Queen looks more resolute than ever here, speaking to the group with all the dominance of a CEO at a board meeting.

“She had been looking rather frail last week but her husband’s return from hospital might have been just the tonic she needed as she looks much fitter and re-energised here.”

For the occasion, the monarch opted for a special brooch.

The Queen wears a brooch with every outfit and it has become part of her uniform.

Out of her huge collection, today she went for her Cambridge Pearl Pendant.

The stunning brooch, which once belonged to Queen Mary’s grandmother, features a large pearl surrounded by diamonds.

It is one of the Queen’s brooches in regular rotation and she recently wore it last year in her Foreign and Commonwealth Office Portrait.

She also added her classic three-strand pearl necklace to her summery look along with a pair of pearl earrings.
