ADVENT calendars are not just for the run up to Christmas – Aldi is selling a sparkling wine version for the countdown to New Year's Day.

Starting on Christmas Day, December 25, you can seven days of bubbles with the last one on December 31 to see you into the new year.

This advent calendar is great for those of you who get a little sad at the fun ending on Christmas Day – and it only costs $24.99 (£19.47).

Each festive door includes a 187ml bottle of sparkling wine – which is a generous glass to treat yourself – and adds up to 4,488ml worth in total.

In comparison, a 750ml bottle of sparkling white wine from Walmart could cost you $5.98 (4.66).

So you'd have to spend more than $10 (£7.79) more at $35.88 (27.96) to get the same amount of wine from six large bottles.

Aldi doesn't list wine prices online so we couldn't check how its full size booze compares in price.

There's a good variety in Aldi's collection too – Brut Rosé, Moscato d'Asti, Sparkling Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir all make appearances.

Don't worry – there's the good old Prosecco and Cava in there too.

The sparkling wine advent calendar goes on sale on December 4 – but be aware that each shopper is limited to purchasing two.

Check where your nearest Aldi store is using the branch finder online – it's advisable to call ahead as not all stores will be stocking these advent calendars.

If sparkling wine isn't for you – you might prefer Aldi's regular wine advent calendar.

Or perhaps beer is more your thing? Aldi has you covered with its craft beer Christmas countdown calendar too.

Aldi US is also selling an advent calendar full of 24 days' worth of cheese, if you want a savoury treat.

On sale at Aldi UK are these festive Bailey's liqueurs – in gingerbread and caramel and hazelnut flavours.

The supermarket has also launched the "Aldiploma" to help shoppers when choosing wine.
