DEAR DEIDRE: A WOMAN I like at work is desperate for me to ask her out but I just don’t fancy her.

I work in a supermarket and she took to me when I joined the staff a year ago. She is a wonderful woman with a great personality.

We became good friends and often went out with the younger crowd from work. I am 22 and she is 24.

But friends is all we’ll ever be from my point of view.

Colleagues dropped hints about how she was eating her heart out for me and tried to pressure me into asking her out.

But her looks just don’t appeal to me.

I worry I have ruined her life. I wish I could love her the way she loves me, but I can’t.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.

DEIDRE SAYS: You won’t have ruined her life – there will be somebody right out there for her, but decency demands you handle this tactfully now.

It won’t help her to see too much of you.

Don’t make a big deal of it but gently back away.

Give her space and avoid socialising where she is going to be, even if that means you have to miss out sometimes.
