10 Best Black Skinny Jeans For Women 2021 | The Sun UK

02/12/2021

BLACK skinny jeans are like the leggings of the denim world – they’re easy to chuck on, go with everything and you can dress them up or down.

Even though boyfriend styles are having their moment right now, skinnies have never left our wardrobes – and for good reason.

When you think about it, skinny jeans connect Russell Brand to Kate Middleton, they’re the link between indie punks and Love Island stars. Talk about versatile.

Despite black skinny jeans boasting long-lasting popularity, it’s not easy to find your perfect pair.

There’s nothing worse than washing some great jeans once and the dark dye running, leaving you with a washed-out pair that you didn’t ask for.

Or, when they fit perfectly around the legs but bunch at the waist, no one likes a saggy seat.

To help you navigate the wide world of skinnies, we’ve selected the best black skinny jeans for women available now – from stylish bargains to long-lasting investments.

1. Best ripped skinnies: New Look's Black Ripped High Waist Hallie Super Skinny Jeans

  • Black Ripped High Waist Hallie Super Skinny Jeans, £29.99 from New Look – buy here

New Look is a high street brand you can always rely on for a wide range of on-trend jeans at super-reasonable prices.

Freshly back in stock is the Hallie jean: a super-skinny high-stretch denim that sits on the waist and promises to make you feel "all Insta-ready."

With ripped detail at the knees for that lived in, rock-and-roll feel, these will go fabulously with chunky knitwear and big boots for casual daytime wear, or a statement top and heels for a dressier evening feel.

Even better, they're part of New Look's responsibly sourced Kind range and have been made using less water—making them friendlier to the planet.

2. We tested: M&S Collection Magic Shaping High Waisted Skinny Jeans

  • M&S Collection Magic Shaping High Waisted Skinny Jeans, £39.50 from M&S – buy here

Looking for some sculpting skinnies that aren't super pricey? M&S' Magic Shaping High Waisted skinnies might just be your match.

For under £40, these black skinny jeans are cut from premium bi-stretch fabric with a contoured waistband for a flattering fit. We decided to give them a test run to see if they really hold in your stomach like M&S promise.

Usually finding a good-fitting pair of jeans is a lengthy quest that takes lots of trial and error which meant we weren't expecting a great fit immediately. But when our size 10, long jeans arrived we were pleasantly surprised by their stretch and the perfect length.

As we're more used to wearing wide-leg styles, it did feel strange wearing super skinny jeans, as they are very skinny and tight on the legs, yet they're still easy to wear all day without feeling restricted.

They really do pull you in at all the right places with a tight waist that still feels breathable. We kept them on as we worked from home and they actually felt as comfortable as leggings, so it's a 10/10 for flexibility.

3. Best petite pair: ASOS DESIGN Petite Rivington denim jeggings

  • Petite Rivington denim jeggings, £14.40 (was £18) from ASOS – buy here

They’re cleverly cut to lift your butt and lengthen your legs and are fitted with a 'tummy slimming panel' to suck you in at the same time.

But while they’re super sculpting, they’re not restrictive due to Levi’s patent high-performance four-way stretch fabric.

However, if we choose a brand that takes its ethical and environmental credentials seriously, and get an investment pair like Reformation's High & Skinny, we can rest easy that not only does our bum look good, but we've also purchased denim that's used less water and created less waste and fewer CO2 emissions.

With the ultra-stretch organic cotton blend fabric and flattering high waist, you'll be living in these. We'd recommend teaming with your favourite rock T-shirt – see the Reformation model for inspo.

Gap has some of the best denim on the high street, as these black skinnies prove.

Slim through the hip and thigh, the super high-rise jeans have secret, smoothing pockets at the front.

10. Best cropped black skinnies: J. Brand's Ruby High Rise Skinny Cropped Jeans

  • J. Brand Ruby High Rise Skinny Cropped Jeans, £230 from John Lewis – buy here

Featuring a 26-inch inseam and crafted from stretch slimming denim, these jeans have classic five-pocket styling and a zip and button-front fastening.

How do I wear black jeans?

They're a staple for a reason.

Black skinnies can be paired with pretty much anything and can be worn on any occasion.

Pop on a basic white tee and a black leather jacket for a trendy monochrome look, or go for a controversial double denim and add a blue denim jacket.

From heels, to boots, to sandals or trainers, you can combine a flattering pair of black skinny jeans with any shoe and still look stylish.

Can you wear skinny jeans if you have big thighs?

If you have larger or athletic thighs, you know it can be a challenge to shop for jeans that won’t emphasise their size.

But don’t despair, as plenty of models are cut to flatter larger legs.

Usually, fashion experts say that the best style for women with bigger thighs is the straight leg jeans as they will make you look taller.

There’s also flare jeans, which are slimmer on the hips area and wider in the bottom – a winner for those with muscular thighs.

But if skinny jeans are what you have set your eyes on, there's no reason to give up.

First of all opt for darker shades, which will have a slimming effect and will elongate your legs.

And wear your skinny jeans with a long and flowy top, which will camouflage the problem area.

Finally, put some wedges or platform-style heels to create balance in the line of your leg and create a stronger look.
