Spoilers: Christian left devastated after Rachel suddenly dies in Home and Away

Christian (Ditch Davey) has missed his own wedding and left Tori (Penny McNamee) heartbroken and confused as he began obsessing over treatment for newcomer Rachel (Marny Kennedy) after a horror skydiving accident left her with a near-fatal spinal injury.

After several weeks of treatment, the day finally comes for Christian to remove the brace and she says she’s going to miss this place. They say an emotional goodbye, both knowing it is likely going to be the last time they see each other.

Rachel goes for a final walk along the beach before leaving town, compiling a last text to Christian where she says maybe in another life things could have been different. As she goes to cross the road, a vehicle comes rushing towards her…

Christian and Tori are called into emergency for an incoming trauma patient, and they are stunned to realise it’s Rachel. Christian barely holds it together as he tries to save her, trying in vain to give her CPR and restart her heart.

However, Tori has to stop him eventually and call Rachel’s time of death. Christian slumps to the floor, shell-shocked. He looks at his phone and sees the text from Rachel, then looks back to the hospital bed.

He’s left with the question – if he survived his ordeal with Lewis (Luke Arnold) to save Rachel, just to have her die hours after her recovery, what was the point in any of it?
