Spider plants can grow in a wide range of conditions and suffers from few problems, other than brown tips. These houseplants are also known as spider-like plants, or spiderettes, which dangle down from the mother plant like spiders on a web. They are native to tropical and southern Africa but has become commonplace in Western Australia. In the UK, spider plants like well-drained soil and bright, indirect light.

As trendy today as it was generations ago, the spider plant creates a living mobile when put in a hanging basket or is great to have in a beautiful plant pot on the side of a desk.

Spider plants are extremely popular houseplants, and for good reason.

The plant is undemanding and prefers bright but indirect light which means it’s perfect anywhere in the house away from a sunny windowsill.

Gardening experts at Rhino Greenhouse Direct have shared how spider plants make the “ideal” indoor plant to add to a “work setup”.

They explained: “If you’re short on outdoor space, you may be looking for an indoor plant to sit alongside your working setup. 

“In which case, spider plants should be at the top of your list.”

The experts also revealed how owning this houseplant can be highly beneficial.

As well as being easy to care for, spider plants can actually benefit their owners’ health.

According to experts, these plants are champion cleaners of air.

So it’s worth keeping them where more time is being spent, for example for those working from home this plant would make a great add-on to a desk.

Plus, it’s great to keep one of these plants in the kitchen and bathrooms.

The experts explained how super plants improve the air quality.

They said: “Spider plants have been proven to be an extremely efficient cleanser of air, with tests showing that the plant is capable of removing up to 90 percent of potentially cancer-causing chemical formaldehyde from the air. 

“Not only will this plant make you happier, but it’ll also make you much healthier.”

These tough plants tolerate lots of abuse, making them excellent candidates for newbie gardeners or those without a green thumb. 

The indoor plant novices said: “Low maintenance and easy to grow, spider plants are ideal for gardening novices. 

“Thanks to their cascading long leaves, they’re ideal for use in vertical spaces around your home.”

Provide them with well-drained soil and bright, indirect light and they will flourish. 

Water them well but do not allow the plants to become too soggy, which can lead to root rot. 

In fact, spider plants prefer to dry out some between waterings.
