Removing weeds can be a tricky task, especially if you’ve got children and pets running around. Often, herbicides can contain harmful chemicals that aren’t safe to use around pets. Now, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their go-to homemade weed killer hack after a Facebook user asked.

Mrs Hinch, also known as Sophie Hinchliffe, has over 4.1 million followers on Instagram and has inspired a plethora of social media users to create their own advice groups.

Facebook user Gladys Lynn Siddens asked a social media group dedicated to gardening tips about what to use on her weeds.

She said: “Hi, I know someone in the past mentioned white vinegar salt and washing up liquid mixed together to get rid of weeds.

“Could someone tell me what ratios please? Thanks in advance.”

The post was inundated with comments from fellow gardening fans.

Kim Armstrong said: “No exact science to it, mostly vinegar and generous helping of salt and a good squirt of washing up liquid.”

Susan Molloy said: “I didn’t follow the measurement myself, I just poured a bottle of cheap white vinegar into a large spray bottle with half a cup of salt and a squirt of washing up liquid.

“Give it a good shake, and then it’s ready. It really does work.”
