Dean sends Ziggy to stay with Coco in heartbreaking Home and Away scenes

Dean (Patrick O’Connor) has been refusing to take his pain medication after his discharge from hospital, and his suffering has led to multiple arguments between himself and Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) – putting strain on their relationship which has only just been rekindled.

Despite having been warned that caring full time for someone in rehabilitation from an accident is demanding, Ziggy is determined to be there for Dean but quickly realises she is in over her head. Her attempts at persuading him to stick with his medication schedule all result in rows and she is left exhausted.

When Mackenzie (Emily Weir) steps in to give Ziggy a break, Logan (Harley Bonner) tags along and tells the women that he believes Dean is suffering from PTSD. His poor attitude towards his situation has been caused by his reminder of a previous car accident which killed his friend, and a fear of getting addicted to painkillers again.

Dean opens up more to Logan and Mackenzie, admitting that he can’t focus on getting better when he feels he’s putting pressure on his relationship with Ziggy, which is still new. He wants them to focus on their relationship, not his partner being a carer.

He makes a difficult decision and tells Ziggy that she has to leave for a while. Stunned, Ziggy questions – I have to leave my own house?

Dean says he needs some time to focus on his recovery without her around, and Mackenzie produces a suitcase she packed for her – so she can go and spend some time with her sister Coco in Queensland…
