Shake Shack Celebrates Traditional Korean Flavors With Gochujang Fueled Creations

09/24/2020

Known for celebrating its global locations, Shake Shack is now looking to mark its place in South Korea by highlighting some traditional Korean flavors. Inspired by Shake Shack Culinary Director Mark Rosati‘s trip to the country, the new menu items are fueled by gochujang, a red chili paste made with glutinous rice and meju powder.

Leading the limited series is the Gochujang Chicken Shack which is centered around a sous-vide chicken breast that is deep-fried and smothered in a gochujang glazed. Topped with black and white sesame seeds, the succulent piece of chicken is laid on a bed of kimchi slaw and mayo between a potato bun. Meanwhile, the Gochujang Shack reimagines the signature option with Emmental cheese, pickles, kimchi-slaw and gochujang mayo. Rounding up the delicious options are Gochujang Fries, which sees the crinkle-cut potatoes topped with gochujang mayo, bacon, gochugaru (Korean red chili powder) and chives.

The limited gochujang menu items will be available at Shake Shack location throughout South Korea from September 29 to the end of October.
