Thanks to TikTok, our culinary repertoire is better than ever before.

Recently we’ve discovered how to make crispy and fluffy potatoes with no oven and a Bisto gravy rub for roast chicken.

But now people are attempting a new sweet treat that’s a different take on a classic.

Custard toast is the latest food trend sweeping the platform – and it’s a delicious breakfast-meets-dessert hybrid.

While it looks and sounds similar to French toast, the custard variety is slightly different.

Essentially, it involves smothering a custard-like mixture onto bread, topping it with strawberries (or some sort of fruit) and then baking in the oven.

The result is an aesthetically-pleasing plate of food that would look great if you’re hosting brunch for friends.

According to TikTok, to make the ‘custard’ element of this recipe you’ll need just three ingredients: egg, yoghurt and honey.

Then simply grab some fresh bread and your favourite fruity topping.

Once you’ve mixed together the custard ingredients, simply press down the middle of your bread to form a well and pour in the liquid.

Then add sliced fruit on top and bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 180°C.

As well as strawberries, others have opted for blood orange slices – which look beautiful on the yellow custard background.

Also, one TikTok user explains how you can make the recipe vegan by swapping out the egg and yoghurt for alternatives.

It’s safe to say the trend is already a hit with foodies, as the hashtag #custardtoast has received more than 2.4 million views in a matter of days.

If you’re looking for a savoury breakfast alternative, why not try pesto eggs – which simply involves frying the dairy product in pesto, rather than oil in a pan.
