Lidl recall chicken over urgent listeria fears – illness potentially deadly

A product is being recalled in Northern Ireland after fears of contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, specific to Northern Ireland, affects products in Lidl stores.

The Glensallagh Roast Chicken Breast Pieces by Faughan Foods are being recalled.

What products are affected?

Glensallagh Roast Chicken Breast Pieces (Family pack)

  • Pack size 240g
  • Batch code P3527
  • Best before 13 September 2020

The FSA said: “Listeria monocytogenes (listeria) is a bacterium that causes an illness called listeriosis. Cases of foodborne illness from listeria are rare, but can involve serious symptoms and even death in certain groups of people. These include:

  • people with weakened immune systems, such as those suffering from cancer
  • pregnant women and their unborn babies
  • newborn babies
  • elderly people.”

The symptoms of Listeria include a flu feelings, with high temperature, muscles pains and sickness.

Another recall has been made after peanuts contaminated the product.

Stray peanuts could cause deadly anaphylaxis for allergy sufferers.

Country Products Ltd is recalling Snak Shed Milk Chocolate Coated Jumbo Raisins.

This is a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to barley or gluten.

The FSA said: “Co-op is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
