KFC is now open once again after briefly closing during the nationwide lockdown this year. The restaurant has joined several others in offering delivery only services as the country waits out COVID-19.

KFC has joined Burger King and Pret in opening their doors once more to serve hungry customers via delivery.

While people can order fast food once again, they may only do so in certain areas, as only select stores have opened.

Just 11 stores across the country will provide services again, provided their staff can come back.

KFC has opened shops at the following locations:

• Heaton Chapel, Manchester
• Deansgate, Manchester
• Tamworth
• New Oscott, Birmingham
• Manchester Hulme
• Portsmouth
• Aldershot
• Cardinal Park, Ipswich
• Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow
• Great Western Park, Glasgow
• Coliseum Retail Park, Enfield

People living within the vicinity of the shops can order food via local drivers.

KFC will likely deliver using services such as Uber Eats or Deliveroo.

Both companies have introduced social distancing into their daily business, taking careful precautions to limit contact.

Their “contact-free” delivery will ensure people only need to pick up their food at the door, reducing the chance of infection.

Those concerned about catching COVID-19 through food need worry not, however, as experts have noted there is no evidence which suggests this is possible.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)’s chief scientist, Marta Hugas, said relatives of COVID-19 have not been able to transmit via food.

She said: “Experiences from previous outbreaks of related coronaviruses, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), show that transmission through food consumption did not occur.

“At the moment, there is no evidence to suggest that coronavirus is any different in this respect.”

KFC is also one of several restaurants which have aided NHS frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

They said they delivered more than 3,000 meals to NHS personnel last week and have continued to hand out free food.

Every open store will provide 100 free meals to workers from every open store in the country.

A spokesperson said: “There’s still a need for affordable, accessible food at this time – so we want to do our part.”
