Famous in America for its square hamburgers and sea salt fries, Wendy’s made its return to the UK back in June. Opening its doors today to another location, customers will be able to pick up the iconic burger, chicken nuggets as well as breakfast options.

After opening restaurants in the UK back in the 1980s and 1990s, Wendy’s returned to the UK earlier this year.

The hamburger chain is the third biggest burger chain in the UK, and has plans to expand across the country.

The first location Wendy’s opened a restaurant was in Reading.

At the time, a spokesperson said: “Our first location is in Reading and we are exploring additional opportunities in the London area.

“The brand is excited to enter the UK with company-owned and operated restaurants this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the United Kingdom.”

Wendy’s opened its Stratford branch today, its first London location.

Opening within the Stratford Shopping Centre (52 Broadway, E15 1NG), Wendy’s will be offering hungry customers breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

Iconic menu items will also be available such as the Baconator, Dave’s Single, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the Frosty dessert.

A breakfast menu will also be available until 10:30am and will include foods like the Breakfast Baconator, Croissant Sandwiches and the Classic Egg and Cheese Sandwich.

These favourites will be joined by an exclusive range of items only available in the UK, including the Veggie Stack, Veggie Bites and Avocado Veggie Salad.

The restaurant will be the first multi-floor dining room for Wendy’s in the UK, with views looking out onto St. John’s Church and the surrounding area.

What’s more, local residents will be able to enjoy Wendy’s from the comfort of their own homes via UberEats.

The chain has also announced three additional locations set to open in Oxford, Croydon and Romford before the end of the year.

Taking to Twitter to share their excitement, London customers were overjoyed with the opening of the new restaurant.

One person said: “Mega queues at London’s Stratford Wendy’s, shop front looks so nice.”

Another wrote: “Off to try Wendy’s iconic burgers for the second time, they’re too good.”

One customer tweeted: “Best believe I’m off to Wendy’s Stratford tomorrow, I wonder if it’s better than McDonald’s.”

“Totally forgot I now live next to the new Wendy’s, I pray for my bank account,” said a fourth.

Wendy’s has plans to open a further 10 branches across the UK but these could be delivery-only kitchens, some of which could run from trucks.

Abigail Pringle, the president of Wendy’s international business, said the dark kitchen sites would form part of a plan to eventually have up to 400 branches in the UK.

She said: “The UK’s delivery [market] has continued to grow year after year.

“Humans like convenience and that’s always going to be a part of what they are looking for.”

The delivery-only kitchens were first tested in the US and Canada and were deemed a success.
