Iceland recall: Urgent food recall issued on item sold in this supermarket

Young’s Seafood is urging customers not to eat one of its products because of a potential allergen. The Simply Breaded 2 Extra Large Fish Fillets have been recalled because they contain milk which isn’t included on the labelling. The fish product is sold in Iceland supermarkets.

Which product is affected? 

The product that has been recalled is the Young’s Simply Breaded 2 Extra Large Fish Fillets. 

The pack size is 300g, with specifically the larger size fillets being recalled over safety fears. 

The items affected by the recall have the batch codes AC L 0097, AB L0114, and AB L 0116.

The affected fish packs have an expiry date of October 2021. 

The fish fillets contain milk in the recipe, but they’re now being recalled as this isn’t made clear in the label.

Milk is an allergen which has to be declared on packaging for customers who may need to avoid it. 

The company issued the recall advice on May 18 with a statement warning shoppers that they may be affected. 

The company said: “The product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

As well as warning its customers, Young’s Seafood has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall to help spread the message.

The advice to anyone who has bought the product is not to eat it if they have any allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

Customers can arrange a refund for the fish fillets by getting in touch directly with Young’s Seafood on their care line, by calling 0800 496 8647 or emailing [email protected].

The recall does not affect any other Young’s Seafood products. 

The fish fillets are sold in various sizes and pack sizes in many of the main supermarkets, but it’s the Extra Large 300g pack that’s being recalled by Iceland.

The seafood company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers to warn them about the affected products. 

The notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and explains what to do if they have previously bought the product from Iceland. 

The notice reads: “We apologise to retailers and our customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall. 

“The safety and quality of our products is highly important to us and we take all issues regarding the production of our food extremely seriously.”

Milk allergies and intolerances can vary in severity and can affect the digestive system as well as the skin and breathing. 

Affected customers might be lactose intolerant, or allergic to milk or dairy products. 

The product is otherwise safe for those who do not have any allergies or intolerance to milk or the other ingredients that appear on the label. 

Food recalls are issued when there is a risk to customers due to allergy labelling being missing or incorrect, and are shared by the Food Standards Agency in an Allergy Alert.
