A food recall is issued when there is a discovery made about a certain product that is deemed unsafe or unsuitable for the consumer. The latest recall comes from supermarkets including Tesco and Asda.

The supermarkets are recalling certain batches of The Traditional Welsh Sausage Company’s pork sausages due to incorrect labelling.

Tesco said: “The Traditional Welsh Sausage Company are recalling four date codes of their Edwards of Conwy Traditional Pork Sausages, 400g, as they may contain gluten (what) which is not declared on the packaging.”

Affected batches:

– Use by September 11, 2021

– Use by September 12, 2021

– Use by September 21, 2021

– Use by September 25, 2021

The supermarket added: “If you’ve bought the affected product, do not consume it if you have an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

“Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given.

“No receipt is required.”

If customers would like further information, they can contact The Traditional Welsh Sausage Company by email at [email protected] or call 01492 576 800.

Tesco said: “You can also contact Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555 (UK) or 1800 248 123 (ROI).”

Asda is also asking customers who have an allergy or intolerance to gluten to return the item to their nearest store.

The supermarket said: “You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and if you would like any further information please contact Asda Customer Relations on 0800 952 0101.”

This isn’t the only food item being recalled by supermarkets at the moment.

Tesco is recalling its own-brand salad cream because it contains milk which is not declared on the packaging.

The retailer explained: “We’re recalling Tesco 50 percent less fat salad cream 450ml with a best before end date of June 2022, as we’ve been made aware it contains milk that is not declared on the packaging.

“If you’ve bought the affected product, do not consume it if you have an allergy or intolerance to milk or follow a vegan diet.

“Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”

In other supermarket news, Tesco recently announced its new partnership with Loop, which will allow customers to buy essential items in completely reusable and durable packaging.

Available as a trial in 10 large Tesco stores in the east of England, customers can return their empty packaging to store when finished so it can be cleaned, refilled and used again.

Ken Murphy, Tesco Group CEO, said: “We are determined to tackle plastic waste and one of the ways we can help is by improving reuse options available to customers.

“Bringing Loop to our stores is a significant milestone in this journey.

“With 88 everyday products available, we’re giving customers a wide range of options and we’ll learn as much as we can from this to inform our future packaging plans.”
