Food recall: Supermarkets issue urgent food recall amid salmonella and allergy fears

08/25/2020

A food recall notice is not to be ignored, as they are often for products that could pose a serious health risk, such as causing an allergic reaction. In the last 24 hours, foods that have been sold in many supermarkets and smaller stores including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Ocado, Spar and Holland and Barrett have been recalled due to safety fears. The products have been found to be potentially unsafe to eat as they may contain salmonella, while others could be a danger to those with allergies.

The Food Standards Agency shared the details of the food recalls on its website.

Food recalls are issued when a product should be returned to stores for a refund due to safety fears, as opposed to being simply withdrawn from sale.

The latest recalls follow a number of food recalls issued earlier this week due to the possible infection of Brazil nuts that have been used in the products sold in various shops.

Here is the full list of affected items.

Rude Health – The Ultimate Muesli

Rude Health Foods is recalling its The Ultimate Muesli product due to fears of salmonella.

The company is recalling the product as a precautionary measure.

It follows the news that some Brazil nuts from a third-party supplier could have a possible salmonella contamination.

If contaminated, it could cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

No other products by the brand have been affected by the recall.

The muesli product is sold in many shops including Amazon, Holland & Barrett, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado.

The recall applies to the 500g bag of muesli with specific best before dates.

The affected packs will have a best before date of:

July 20, 2021

July 21, 2021

June 12, 2021

June 24, 2021

Customers should check whether they have the affected packs with the above dates.

Rude Health has advised customers not to eat the product, and instead to return the product to the store for a full refund.

You can return it with or without a receipt, and you can also contact [email protected] for further guidance.

Spar

Spar is also recalling a food item due to fears of a serious allergy risk.

The store is recalling its SPAR Chicken and Prawn paella because it contains fish, molluscs, milk and wheat (gluten), which are not mentioned on the label.

This means it could be a danger to those with allergies or intolerances to fish, molluscs, milk or milk constituents, or wheat (gluten).

The affected packs are 600g with a lot number of 0105, and have a best before date of October 13, 2021.

Spar has notified the relevant allergy organisations to help spread the word to those who may be most affected.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers in store to explain the risk.

Customers are advised not to eat the product and to contact the store they purchased it from for a full refund.

No other Spar products are affected by the product recall.
