Co-op slashes prices across more than 60 food lines for members

A change to the Co-op membership scheme will allow customers to spend even less on their favourite items while shopping in-store. The lower prices apply to more than 60 key lines offered by the retailer, including meal deals, wine, and seasonal favourites like the British BBQ line. And for those who aren’t already a member, it costs just £1 to join and take advantage of the competitive deals.

Co-op has announced new member prices that could help customers save up to £300 per year in their 2,400 UK stores.

As food prices go up on many supermarket shelves, the convenience retailer claimed that the revised prices are among the “most competitive”.

Members will be pleased to know that many bestselling items are included in the discounted lines, such as Co-op meal deals, award-winning pizzas, wine, and seasonal produce.

The exclusive deals also apply to their popular freezer filler deal, on which customers can save up to £8 on average.

Shoppers can also save £1.45 on Co-op’s “Irresistable” pizzas and £1.90 on ready meals.

For wine lovers, savings of up to £5 are on offer, with the same discounts applied to their British BBQ lines and fresh fruit ranges.

One of the most notable deals is the reduction in the price of the retailer’s lunchtime meal deal, which allows members to buy a drink, main and snack for just £3.50.

This is down 50p from their non-member price of £4, though still higher than Tesco’s £3.40 deal.

In May, Co-op will invest a further £15million to reduce the cost of everyday staples.

This takes the total invested into cutting prices over the past six months to a staggering £52million.

Products included in the extra price investment include fresh chicken breasts, bread and milk.

According to a spokesperson for the retailer, the cost of products will be reduced by 13 percent on average, though some will be cut by as much as 33 percent.

Kenyatte Nelson, chief membership and customer officer at Co-op, said: “The new push for member prices ensures that we’re rewarding the loyalty of shoppers with the most competitive prices on the best offers we have in our stores.

“Alongside weekly personalised offers, exclusive games to win additional discounts and prizes, plus the benefit of money back via own brand purchases, all while supporting local causes with funds raised via members’ spending in store.”

In addition to saving money on household favourites, Co-op members can also earn as they spend.

For every £1 spent in-store on Co-op own-brand products, shoppers gain 2p for their digital wallet. And at the same time, the retailer donates the same amount to help fund thousands of community causes.

It’s not just groceries that customers can access deals on either. Those with a membership can also access discounts on funeral care, insurance, and legal services offered by the retailer.

While the revised prices are available to current members from today, Wednesday, April 19, shoppers can sign up for the loyalty scheme in a matter of minutes.

This is easy to do by following the instructions at coop.co.uk/membership, and it costs just £1 to sign up.
