Chippy sells deep-fried Colin the Caterpillar cake

Colin the Caterpillar has been in the news a lot recently thanks to a very public dispute with Cuthburt.

M&S, who make Colin, has launched legal action against Aldi, claiming it has infringed the copyright of the cake by producing Cuthbert.

And after seeing the nation split, one chippy is throwing its weight firmly behind Cuthbert – by ‘battering’ Colin.

Papa’s Fish and Chips, which has branches in Hull, Cleethorpes, Whitby and Scarborough, is selling deep-fried mini Colins.

Yes, that’s right – Colin, dipped in batter and fried in oil for a truly indulgent treat.

After the Aldi social media team tried to settle the row with a #Caterpillarsforcancer campaign, the fish and chip shop thought they could do something to help too.

Posting on Twitter, Papa’s said: ‘Sorry @MarksandSpencer we’re backing @AldiUK on this one. #SnitchersGetBattered so we’re battering Colin the Caterpillar in our delicious sweet batter Mon 26th – and all profits go to @teencancertrust.’

The deep-fried treats cost £1.49 each, with the money going to the charity.

Anyone in the area who wants to try one needs to be quick though as they’ll only be available tomorrow.

Owner Dino told the Grimsby Telegraph: ‘It’s all a bit of fun and a great way to raise money for charity.

‘Like the rest of the nation, we have been gripped by the Colin and Cuthbert saga and we’ve chosen which side we are backing.

‘The battered caterpillars are also absolutely delicious, so we thought why not?

‘We are buying as many mini Colins as we can and they will be battered in our sweet batter and available in all restaurants on Monday.’
