Chef ‘surprised’ by easy air fryer method for perfect jammy eggs

12/02/2023

A TikTok chef with more than 67.4K followers has taken to the social media platform to share her shock at how well eggs cook in an air fryer.

Fried and poached versions have already become a hit with Britons who own these efficient appliances, and now, @‌traystewie has revealed how to make “easy simple” dippy eggs.

In a video posted on her profile, the chef said: “I am totally new to this whole air fryer game but I just found out you can hard boil, soft boil, make jammy eggs in an air fryer.”

She started by showing the tempting results – cooked whole eggs with golden runny yolks oozing out – before revealing her method.

The cooking expert claimed that she experimented with two cooking formats to achieve perfect eggs.

TikTok star @‌traystewie said: “I saw two different videos – two different temperatures, so I will try them both out.”

Firstly, she placed two whole eggs in the air fryer and set it to 150C for nine minutes.

The second round of eggs were set to 190C for just six minutes in the same Ninja air fryer.

After cooking, she placed the eggs in a bowl of iced water, claiming: “It’s super important to shock the eggs to stop the cooking process.

“The longer you put them in the water – about 10 minutes – the easier it is to peel the shell.”

Once peeled, @‌traystewie seasoned the eggs with salt and pepper before cutting them in half to reveal the results.

The ones which were air fried for nine minutes were perfectly jammy – “slightly runny in the centre but not fully set”, which the TikTok chef claimed to be “a good option for ramen noodles”.

Those that were cooked for six minutes on a higher heat were a little different, with “a good runny yolk”.

Many people were fans of the cooking tip, with one person writing that it actually prompted them to buy an air fryer.

Another was just as shocked as the chef, writing “wait, eggs in an air fryer?” to which @traystewie replied: “Right? I was surprised too.”
