SHOPPERS have been warned about stealing at the self checkout in Walmart – but cops are now focusing on a certain type of theft.

Stores across the country have been cracking down on thefts and scams from shoppers using the self-checkout systems.

And police have now turned their attention to another type of theft – catalytic converters.

Officers said they swooped in to stop multiple suspects from stealing the expensive car parts outside a Walmart store in Houston, Texas on Sunday.

They were called to the car park and quickly managed to track down a number of suspects targeting Walmart shoppers.

One suspect was identified as Z-Riyah Evans, and the others were said to be teenagers.

Constable Mark Herman said they were charged with theft.

It comes after a Walmart shopper shared the new tech at the self-checkout line to make sure customers aren’t stealing.

With over 9.6million views, TikToker Keiandrea Daniels posted the video of herself at the self-checkout at her local Walmart.

Cameras on both sides of the counter watch her as she scans a bottle of Minute Maid Lemonade while another screen shows a picture of the scanned item.

“BABY WALMART SAID YOU AIN’T STEALING FROM THEM NO MO!” Keiandrea wrote using the app’s on-screen text.

In the comments, she clarified the Walmart was in Richardson, Texas.

Walmart has been coming down hard on thieves and scammers.

One woman from Kentucky is facing five to 10 years in prison after being convicted of “unlawful access to a computer”.

Prosecutors and Walmart argued that Chastity, Shirley, 34, swapped barcodes at the self-checkout and therefore unlawfully accessed the store’s computer system.

The tactic has been dubbed a “switcheroo” and it involves customers scanning an expensive item with a barcode for a cheaper product.

Between January 2021 and March 2022, more than 60 customers were arrested at a Walmart store in Tucson after accidentally forgetting to scan some items.

One Walmart shopper claimed that she almost went to jail over the company's recent self-checkout update.

Lawyer Tim Fleming, of Alabama, claimed self-checkout machines can inaccurately accuse a customer of stealing.

He suggested that shoppers may not be concentrating when they’re checking out their groceries so they could unintentionally miss an item.

Fleming also suggested that customers may miss the beep of the machine.

Shoppers that are wrongly accused of stealing should remain calm if they’re being quizzed, according to the lawyer.

One Walmart worker claimed employees know when customers are trying to steal while using the self-checkout.

The staffer claimed the tactics used by alleged shoplifters are impossible to miss.

If employees suspect that you’re stealing at one of the self-checkout machines, they have an option to pause your machine remotely from a handheld device.

To a shopper, it looks as though the machine is dealing with a general glitch or error.

Once your self-checkout machine has been remotely paused, you’ll have no choice but to call a Walmart employee over for help.

Employees can also see the groceries that shoppers are scanning through.
