We're decluttering experts – here's how to save loads of space in your wardrobe, it's so easy | The Sun

A PAIR of professional organisers have given their top tip on how to save loads of space in your wardrobe – and it doesn't mean chucking out your clothes.

Alison Lane and Joanne Alexander, 43, are experts in decluttering everything from wardrobes to entire houses.

The best friends launched Sorted in Glasgow last year and soared to success while helping both families and young professionals create an organised living environment.

One difficulty their clients experience is making sure there is enough space in a wardrobe for all their bulky jackets and jumpers, as well as lighter dresses and blazers.

Those in a household sharing storage space can find it especially tricky to fit everyone's items in.

But Jo and Ali have got you covered with an easy trick that can free up a third of your wardrobe space.

Ali said: "We rave on about slimline hangers.

"Quite often people will have these beautiful but chunky wooden hangers which in reality means that you're losing about a third of your wardrobe space.

"That's one of the first things that we do.

"We block all of their clothes onto the slimline hangers and it basically means that they can just get so much more hanging space in their wardrobe."

Their solution is an easy fix but also cheap – with a pack of 25 black slimline hangers at Dunelm only costing £9.

A client from Newton Mearns raved about the result of Ali and Jo's wardrobe hack online, saying: "Jo and Ali, thank you very much for helping to organise my home.

"My kids' wardrobes were always a mess and family life meant I had no time to get them organised.

"You've created a system that is easy for me and my children to maintain. We can't wait for your next visit!"

Jo and Ali also have the perfect advice for anybody struggling to get started with decluttering their home.

Revealing the top three questions she asks clients, Ali said: "Do you use it, do you wear it, do you love it? If you can't answer yes then donate it on.

"But I would also say for anyone looking to take control of a little bit more, to think about your home in its entirety feels overwhelming so start small.

"Choose one area of your home. It could even just be a drawer. Completely empty the space out, clean it out so everything that's going back in is going into a clean environment.

"Go through each item and just ask yourself, do I use it, do I wear it, do I love it?

"If you can't say yes get rid of it, and if you can say yes you need to find a way to store it.

"But start small. Definitely start small."
