Versace’s ‘Eros Flame’ is the hottest scent for men

She’s had a hand in the creation of 15-plus fragrances, but that doesn’t mean Milan-based fashion legend Donatella Versace is phoning it in these days.

For her latest olfactory effort for men — “Eros Flame,” the sequel to 2012’s “Eros” — Versace oversaw every aspect of the project, from its far-flung ingredients (like Texas cedar, Haitian vetiver and Madagascar black pepper) to its fiery-red, Medusa-stamped bottle.

“Fragrance is one of my passions,” Versace, 64, tells Alexa. “Whenever I travel, I find the time to seek out exotic scents from all over the world. It’s like a private collection to me, one that evokes both memories and dreams.”

Like its predecessor, “Flame” nods to Greek mythology — a central, overarching theme for the entire brand. “These are legends that are timeless, and as powerful today as ever,” Versace notes. “It’s why the symbol of Versace is the Medusa. I love to take traditions, push them into the future and create something new.”

For “Flame,” that means pairing “hot” and “cold” ingredients — like pepperwood and a chinotto accord, inspired by the beloved Italian, citrusy soft drink of the same name. “It’s like love at first sight, that instant attraction that grabs hold of the senses,” Versace says of the accord, which was crafted from lemon, tangerine and bitter orange.

An unapologetically bold scent, the fragrance targets guys who don’t mind grabbing the spotlight.

It’s for a strong, passionate, self-confident man who’s in touch with his emotions.

“It’s for a strong, passionate, self-confident man who’s in touch with his emotions,” Versace says. “When men wear ‘Eros Flame,’ I want them to feel empowered, like they could do anything.”

Versace dials into her brand’s devotees via Instagram. “There are so many young people who I see on the street, or on their social media feeds, and how they wear Versace in their own way is such an inspiration for me,” she says.

“I love how the new generation wears Versace, and then shares their passion with their friends around the planet. It’s a whole new way of thinking about fashion, and it is only just beginning.”

Indeed, Versace is far from resting on her laurels.

“I love my work so much,” she says. “There is no such thing as a normal day — we have so many collections, so many decisions about where to take Versace next. Do I dislike anything? Only that I wish I could do more.”
