PEOPLE go to great lengths to keep their appearance looking youthful these days, but Eva Mendes shocked her followers with an inside look at her painful beauty regime.

The Hollywood actress revealed she is a fan of an eye-watering treatment called mono-threading.

Sharing a snap of the bizarre procedure in progress on her Instagram, Eva wrote: "Here I am getting some Mono-Threads. Ayyyy Dios! ⠀I’ll update you with results if you care."

Mono threading involves the insertion of soluble synthetic threads into the skin to lift and tighten an area.

The threads are thought to stimulate the production of collagen, making the skin appear more youthful.

According to RefreshSkinStudio.co.uk: "The Hyaluronic acid in the Polydioxanone thread lift treatments are important requirements for a more youthful and slightly plumper face, thereby offering results similar to that of a facelift without the need for invasive surgery.

She visited a clinic called Beauty Villa Vergara for the treatment.

Eva previously revealed she doesn't post much on social media because she wants to alleviate the pressure on women to look

"I try to post responsibly and try to make sure I don't portray myself in a way that makes other women feel bad," she wrote in an Instagram comment. "Instagram can be hurtful in that way."

Referencing a glamorous photo of herself, she said:  "Like with this picture, this is actually a campaign shot and it was retouched. So I want women to know that.

"I want women to know it takes a lot for me to look this way and that I struggle with food among many other things."

Though Eva seems enthusiastic about micro-threading, many fans aren't convinced.

"Holly s**t! I think I'd rather s**t a brick and fart a crow bar," one said.

Another said: "HELL NAH GIRL THIS LOOKS SO CRAZY. I hope ur ok. I’m shook."

A third said: "Oh my! I almost passed out."
