Sophie, Countess of Wessex gives royal style rule insight ‘ALWAYS inappropriately dressed’

As a well-known member of the Royal Family, much of the world is often watching when Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 54, steps out for a royal visit. Designer clothes and formal fashion choices are not uncommon for many of the royal’s visits. Sophie’s prominent position in the public eye can often mean that some fans of her style may be inspired to create a similar look with their fashion choices. In September last year, Sophie spoke with This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes, 59, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, ahead of the planting of a tree.

It was here that she gave some insight into the process of planting a commemorative tree, as Eamonn pointed out that she likely plants a number of trees each year.

Eamonn lightheartedly asked: “Is there a technique to this?”

Sophie then explained that there was, before joking about the outfits she would tend to wear for this type of ceremony, which take place outside, and often in muddy conditions.

“First of all you have to be completely inappropriately dressed,” she teased – referring to her own smart dress, while Eamonn stood beside her in a wax coat and Wellington boots.

“I am always inappropriately dressed,” she said. “The one concession I have made is to wearing some very boring shoes because it’s actually been raining a lot and otherwise I would sink.”

Reflecting on previous experiences, Sophie explained that wearing high heels to these kind of events had proved challenging in the past.

Nevertheless, it seems that this rather impractical choice of footwear has become something of a royal tradition.

“But, normally I sink, teetering across in high heeled shoes wearing something very very ‘not geared up for gardening’ that’s for sure,” she told ITV viewers.

“But I thought I wouldn’t break with tradition today and I would do the same again.”

Another point Sophie brought up was the accessory she would usually carry.

Highlighting how it would get in the way of the job she would be carrying out, she explained that it often ends up with a person standing near-by having to hold it.

She added: “Oh, and then the only other thing is I haven’t got a handbag, because normally the gentleman standing next to me has to hold the handbag.”

Sophie, Countess of Wessex has been seen wearing stunning pieces of jewellery a plethora of times in the past.

This includes a stunning brooch, which has been said to be able to reach an estimated £250,000 at auction.

Ailsa Russell Appraiser Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn told Express.co.uk: “This Art Deco design brooch favoured by the Countess of Wessex features a large emerald step-cut aquamarine of intense sea blue colour surrounded by diamond and set within bands of blue and green enamel.

“Debuted by the Countess to the wedding of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco in July 2011, the brooch has seen many public appearances since including several visits to Royal Ascot.

“The impressive brooch is a jewellery staple for the Countess and as such could reach £250,000 at auction.”
